The DANIELS
They were originally from North Duffield but moved to the village by 1861, most of the family remained in the village
for the rest of there lives.
George, the father, lived at White House farm in 1891
John Daniel born 1847 in North Duffield married Sarah Jane Foster from Elvington, they were living at Kexby Lane farm
in 1881 and had moved to Kexby by 1888.
George Henry born 1857 North Duffield remained in the village until he died. He married rather late in life in 1896 to
Cordelia Steel, who passed away not long after in 1901 aged 49.

George Henry Daniel died 7th January 1949 aged 92 years, he is buried in the churchyard
Canon John Erskine Clarke
His parents were William Fairlie Clarke and Arabella Anne Cheap, he was born in Ayr on the 27th October
1827. He had a brother called Alured James, who also went into the clergy, and 3 sisters, Emma Georgiana, Arabella and Margaret.
His father was an East India Company official, he died in 1835, and the family moved back to Scotland.
In 1846 John graduated from Wadham collaege, Oxford, but remained a further year studying theology.
Ordained as the Curate of St Marys, Low Harrogate in 1851, the follwing year he had moved to St Marys
at Lichfield, and in 1856 was the Vicar of St Michaels, Derby.
It was at this time that he published the worlds first parish magazine, the INSET.
It was widely used by parishes throughout Britain, and John continued to edit it until 1896.
In 1866 he was the Perpetual curate of ST Andrews, and the Prebendary at Lichfield. In 1872 became
the Vicar of Battersea, this post he held for 37 years.
He died 3rd February 1920.
