The famous Rowntree family, from the chocolate world,
once lived in Derwent House.
Mr Reg Jacques used to have a greengrocers, at the now
Post Office, on the Green.
There were three cottages on the site of the now Wheatley
Place, which was named after Laurence Wheatley, who was a joiner and lived at Beck Cottage. (This was 2 cottages, North and
South view); Mr Wheatley lived in the left hand side one and had a joiners workshop attached.
Beck Cottage has been the home for the village joiners
for at least a century.
