THE TILBURN FAMILY
 
James and Sarah Tilburn had 5 children all born in Elvington

William in 1851 was working at the Queens Hotel in York, by 1861 he had moved back into the village and was a coachman to ALURED JAMES CLARKE (Curate),
he may have died in 1879 as i have no trace of him later.
 
Thomas married and stayed in the village and his occupation was a gardener, he and his wife, Eliza had

In 1891 John Tilburn was visiting his future in-laws the Bateson family who lived at Kirby Overblow, he was a coachman, he married Florence and was still living in the village in 1901.
 
Emily married Harry Beare in 1900, in 1901 they were a cook, and manservant to Canon JOHN ERSKINE CLARKE at his house in Battersea.
 
The Tilburns lived at Gardeners Cottage in the village, both Thomas and Eliza died fairly young, Thomas died in 1873 and Eliza died 1881.

The JEFFERSON family
 
Thomas and Sarah Jefferson were living at Beeford from at least 1861, Thomas was a gardener and they had the following children

John Thomas married Harriet Wilkinson from Beeford in 1889, in 1891 he is living at 19 Evans Square Hull, he is a jobbing gardener. In 1901 John and Harriet have 3 sons, Cyril 1893, Colton 1894 and Clive 1897.
 
Francis Henry married Mary Ellen Bratley from Swine, they were living in Patrington in 1891, he was a saddler and harness maker. They had moved to Beeford by 1901, where they had one son Donald 1895.
Donald could be Pte D Jefferson 4th Kings Own Yorks. Light Infantry WWI
 
Frederick was living with his future brother-in-law in John William Hall in the Main Street at Beeford, he was a bricklayer. He married Elizabeth Atkin also from Beeford in 1891, she died in 1903. They had
Arthur Stanley 1893-24/8/1911 and buried 4 days later.
Hubert 1895 could be Sgt H Jefferson MGC Military service WWI
Maurice Raymond 1896 killed during WWI, his name is on the Beeford war memorial.
 
Ada married James William Hall in 1892 at Beeford, she was working as a domestic servant to him in 1891, her brother, Frederick, lived there also, they had
 
Alfred 1892 this could be James Alfred Hall born 1892 and was a Sgt of the East Riding Yeomanry, there is a plaque in the church dedicated to him.
 
Thomas Percival Hall 1894 this could be Cpl T P Hall 2nd MGC WWI, also on a plaque in the church.
 
Gilbert Jefferson Hall 1896 could be Driver G T Hall RASC WWI also in the church
 
Muriel 1889
 
William Jefferson married Agnes Rutherford in 1887 at York. Agnes was a domestic servant in York in 1881. They had one son Harold 1890.
William was living in Elvington in 1901 where his occupation is listed as Grocer.
1905 William is a shopkeeper and beer retailer and also in the years 1909, 1913, 1925 and 1937.
William is buried in the churchyard and he died 12th June 1945 aged 83yrs, his wife Agnes had died nearly 20yrs earlier on the 20th April 1928.
Harold went on to become a coal merchant in the village he is mentioned in the trade listings for 1929 and 1937. He married Annie Jane. Harold died when he was 70 years old and his wife 81yrs
